Designing A Garden Shed
Having a garden shed in the yard or near the garden is very handy. You can design your own shed, or buy one of the many prefabricated sheds available on the market. Even if you are going to buy a shed that is already built, you need to consider the same parameters as you would if you were going with the custom built shed. Going through a checklist will help you determine which features are the most important to you, and help you decide among the many possibilities available on the market today. The checklist will allow you to identify those features most important in your decision about a garden shed.
Sheds, although mundane objects, require consideration about the materials they are made from, whether to insulate or not, whether electricity is required, what kind of floor is needed, whether windows will help or affect security and, most of all, how big a shed you need. Cutting out pieces of paper to scale will allow you to plan floor space usage, and help determine the best place for the door, shelves and other permanent features of the garden shed. Then, when you find the shed you think is best, you can use the same pieces to determine the best arrangement before the shed is even delivered or set up.
There is one more thing to consider before you buy a shed, even before you start looking seriously. You need to check the deed restrictions, home owner’s association guidelines and by-laws, and the municipal code where you live to make sure you understand what you can and cannot put on your property. Finding out it is not acceptable or in the wrong place after the garden shed is up and occupied will be very annoying, so it is best to understand the requirements before you have to pay someone to tear it down and haul it away. Don’t laugh, it has happened.
